Detour – The Long Way Home | Amanda Tomasoa

Detour: The Long Way Home – Abstract painting of layered roads, arrows, and textured blocks of colour, featuring a rural house and a subtle horse figure inspired by Pukekohe. Road signs and pathways suggest slowing down, choosing direction, and finding one’s way back home.

Sometimes the unexpected path becomes the one that leads us exactly where we need to be.

Detour – The Long Way Home reflects the unexpected paths we take — the turns, pauses, and redirections that quietly shape our journey. Inspired by my surroundings in Pukekohe, it carries a sense of place, memory, and reflection, where even the smallest details hold meaning.

What may seem like a detour is often part of a greater direction, gently guiding us back to where we truly belong. It is a reminder that the long way is not a mistake, but a path of discovery, growth, and return.
