Circles of Identity | Amanda Tomasoa

A vibrant painting of overlapping circular forms containing faces from different cultures, symbolising shared humanity and identity through colour, expression, and interconnected circular shapes.

An exploration of identity, culture, and the shared humanity that connects us across differences.

Circles of Identity reflects the richness and diversity of human culture, expressed through faces, colours, and layered forms. Each circle holds a presence — a story, a background, a history — representing individuals shaped by their own experiences, traditions, and identities.

Having spent time in places like Bali, I was always struck by the incredible diversity of people from all over the world who gather there. Tourists from different cultures, languages, and backgrounds come together in one shared space, creating a living mosaic of humanity. That experience inspired the spirit of this piece.

While each face is distinct, they exist together within the same space, symbolising how humanity is both diverse and deeply interconnected. The overlapping forms suggest dialogue and coexistence, where differences are not barriers, but part of a larger, shared narrative.
