An exploration of love expressed across cultures, languages, and shared human connection.
Cinta – Love in Many Languages explores the universal nature of love as it is expressed across different cultures and languages. The words “Cinta” (Indonesian), “Saranghae” (Korean), “Wo Ai Nee” (Mandarin), and “Love” (English) come together within this piece, each representing a different voice, yet carrying the same heartfelt meaning.
In my own life, love became something I needed to understand beyond words. Wanting to communicate more deeply with my Indonesian husband, I learned the Indonesian language so we could truly understand each other. That experience shaped the heart of this work — where language becomes more than communication, but a bridge between people.
Through colour, symbols, and layered imagery, this piece reflects the idea that while languages may differ, the emotion behind them remains deeply connected. It speaks to the shared human experience — where love transcends boundaries, bridging cultures, distances, and identities.
